Off Grid you should keep an eye on:
www.permies.com Matt, from Feral Farm, talks about a tiny house he built. This tiny house has a tiny kitchen space inside, and a much larger outdoor kitchen. Everything at Feral Farm is off grid, including this tiny house. “Wizard” has lived in this tiny house for five years. He starts by showing us his tiny wood cook stove which also heats the house. For several months two people have lived in this tiny house – and not as a couple! Some of the wood in the tiny house comes from the property where the house is. Wizard talks about how he is an aspiring minimalist. Relevant threads at permies www.permies.com www.permies.com www.permies.com www.permies.com music by Jimmy Pardo

He’s not a minimalist, he’s a minimal-ish.
This is the coolest thing I’ve seen since we moved off the Commune! Very cool.
@speedbmp Do you remember the old commercial with Sally Struthers, where she asked, “would you like to make more money, Sure, we all do.” When Paul says if you like this sorta thing…I always say, out loud, sure we all do!!!! love you Paul!! no response required!!
very cool! I just saw a listing for a tiny house/space for rent near me and at a good price, I am very tempted to go and look. its only 200 sq ft and 200$ cheaper then my rent now.
Awesome! Heated with a Four Dog Stove, Titanium model. Those stoves are amazing, weighs 10 pounds and will last a lifetime with zero corrosion.
Thanks for sharing!
@TheWhaler1 if you ask this question out at permies.com, I know at least one of the two fellas hang out there …
love it, but…
where is the toilet? and (less important) shower? and what do you do all day, a tv i can live without, but no radio or a couple of hundred books?
answers appreciated!
total hippy. love it.
I have 1,860′ of garage space alone at my place and as much as I hate to say it, that little place is kind of neat. I don’t know if I could live in one quite that small, but give me 600′ of home, completely off grid, and I’m pretty sure I could make it work…providing that I still had internet : )
These houses are nothing but another progressive fad that do not back the basic beliefs they claim to have. If people are so concerned about capitalism, consumerism, being green, recycling, and doing things for less..there are thousands of great travel trailers up for sale in this country every single day. $2000 & you got the whole thing..give the rest of your money to a homeless person. Done
@1971mgb Seems that for a whole lot less effort & trouble a simple used travel trailer (pick you length) would provide a base with toilet & indoor cooking during poor weather. But maybe your right, I’m just not hippy enough.
That’s a very good answer. We have much to learn from you.
@justmom66
Not all.
@novokarpati
Yes to both of you.
My tiny house is north of Seattle,Wa. The day I completed my last tiny house and moved in 2 years ago it was a cold February day 19F. The tiny house is fully insulated like the Wizard’s and at 130sqft plus a 56sq ft loft it is toasty warm heated by a few handfuls of free wood supplied by a nearby cabinet shop.
Small house society has many members in Canada and colder climates in Europe.
@isabstmr
Yes,although it depends on how judgmental the observer is.
It’s not all about you and what you want people to think about you.
That is ego and vanity.
Most of us that live in tiny houses could care less. We sleep easy every night unburdened with the cares of those that think your home is your reflection to others instead of a haven in and of itself.
@Garyscott7
If you can’t figure out a single point,you probably need not ask.
you ought to do a tour of joe hollis’ off-the-grid house in burnsville, nc!
I’m going to build a mansion twice as large as this one.
well, to tell the truth…that house that the ‘hobbit’ lived in …LOTR…! Me thought it was cool..ONLY…I work on houses that have subterrainian water problems…, ya know what I mean…hard to keep the damp out, let alone the water…esp after a 13″ rain like we had in central Pa 2 weeks ago…, jest a’thinkin….
well…I’s bedurned…,
And the point of this little shack “house” is ??
One of these days I’m going to run off to California(?) and become a hippie.
@coldiso i really wish i could understand what you are trying to say PEACE
Would love to see more tiny houses like this. Cool to see the tour of a small house.
@isabstmr NO, because your home is a reflection of you, the owner. You are sending a message to your neighbors and friends. It’s all about you and what you want people to think of you. Not that this a a bad thing.
